Trevor 'Cassidy' Webb Jr is well on his way to maintaining Calabar High School's tradition of producing great student fighters after notching his first international gold at the recent Original Taekwon-Do Federation of America (OTFA) 2015 Open at Longevity Sports Centre in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The 17-year-old looks set to emulate Olympian and International Taekwon-Do Federation World Cup gold medallist Kenneth Edwards and International Sports Karate Association (ISKA) world champion Oshane Murray, who both began fighting black belt adults as schoolboys before going on to win world titles.

Coach Jason McKay said Webb's back-to-back win against a German opponent and Uzbekistan Shakhzhou Kadirov in Vegas reminded him of the devastating trail set by Edwards as a schoolboy summoned to Jamaica's combined martial arts team.

"I expect great things from Cassidy, but I don't believe in comparing fighters. Cassidy's form is unique as was Kenneth and Oshane's," he said, adding that the youngster could rewrite the history books in another regard.

"I believe, however, with the team's push to compete in more ISKA fights over the next two years, and recent history showing that style more in tune with the Jamaican fighting style, he will become a world champion younger than Edwards did.

"I predict him winning the microweight world title next year, exam schedule permitting," McKay added.

Webb has a major year ahead of him in the McKay Security High School League. He is set to captain defending champions Calabar, minus star fighters who have moved on to college.
