Veteran cricketer Nehemiah Perry pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm when he appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

The alleged incident took place on June 28, 2009, between the accused and the complainant, who is his now estranged wife.

According to official reports, the accused's wife took him to a cricket match at Sabina Park and left with the car to attend her son's graduation.

The complainant told the police that an argument ensued because Perry wanted her to leave the graduation prematurely to pick him up.

It is said that during the altercation, Perry allegedly punched the complainant in her eyes and several times in her face, causing swelling and pain.

Perry's estranged wife also reported that she has developed blurred vision, and has had to wear prescribed glasses since the incident occurred.

Not satisfied with the counselling the police recommended in 2009, the complainant reported the matter to the police on August 19.

Perry will appear in court on November 24, when the requested medical is expected to be presented to the presiding judge.
