National junior champion and National Master Shreyas Smith of Calabar High School won the 13th staging of the Jamaica Chess Federation's Harold Chan Chess Open at the Campion College Auditorium.

The tournament was the third Grand Prix event on the local chess calendar. Just under 90 players participated across three divisions: Open, Intermediate and Amateur.

In the Open Division, Smith, who has the distinction of being the highest-rated schoolboy in the history of Jamaican chess, won with five and a half points ahead of National Master Daren Wisdom and FIDE Candidate Master Brandon Wilson, who tied for second, finishing with five points each.

The Under-20 section was also topped by Smith, followed by schoolmate Malik Curriah and Nathan Belinfante of Wolmer's Boys.

Woman International Master, Deborah Richards-Porter walked away as the top female player in the Open Division after ending on four points.

There was close and intense competition in the Intermediate Division, where Emile Bain of Campion College, Kishan Clarke of Hillel Prep, Rushawn White of Ardenne High, and Joseph Ximines of Excelsior High all tied for first place with five points each.

Trinity McDonald of St Catherine Primary and Jaden Shaw of St Andrew Prep finished second and third, respectively, in the Under-8 category. CAC Under-10 champion David Thomas of Hillel Prep finished second in the Under-10 and Under-12 categories, while Raehanna Brown of Immaculate Prep finished third in the Under-10 and Under-12 categories.
