Suspect held in robbery of assistant DPP

Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer

A man suspected to be the person responsible for robbing a Crown Counsel at the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court last week has been held.

The suspect was picked up about 5 p.m. on Wednesday near the courthouse.

The victim, who is a deputy director of public prosecutions, was accosted after arriving for work last week. She is said to have driven on to a restricted section of the court's compound when she was pounced upon by a man who demanded money from her.

The frightened woman handed over money to the man who escaped on foot. A report was made to the police and an investigation launched.

The arrest came a day after the Director of Public Prosecutions, Paula Llewellyn, visited the scene of the robbery.

"I have to visit first hand to see what happened here. I like to lead from the front and will be doing all in my powers to have the Government put resources in place," Llewellyn said.

The police have withheld the name of the accused pending further investigations.
