Jack of all trades

Rosheika Grant, STAR Writer

After spending three years at university studying computer science and management, Ricardo Comrie landed a job as a systems administrator, but he still did not feel satisfied in his profession.

"I was bored and felt like I wasn't being challenged by my nine-to-five, so I got tired of it after a time," said Comrie.

The University College of the Caribbean graduate would soon find a reprieve for his restlessness when he was introduced to event planning by a friend.

Comrie said this was where he found his passion and immediately decided to get certification in event planning and decor by the HEART Trust NTA.

"After I got my formal education in it, I just grew from strength to strength in this profession," said the 33-year-old.

Having worked with event planner extraordinaire Jacqui Tyson, Comrie decided to start his own company, RC Endless Possibilities, in a female-dominated industry, a few years ago.

"At first, people would look at me weird when I come to set up for an event like a wedding, but now, my work speaks for myself, so me being a male isn't an issue," said Comrie.

He noted that entrepreneurship was important to him because he wanted to continue to push himself to grow and also to explore the opportunities offered by owning his own company.

"Instead of sitting in an office around a desk, I have gotten the opportunity to travel through my company, and it opens your eyes to endless possibilities," said Comrie.

The jack of all trades also does brand consultation for the Whirlpool Company.

"I like a new challenge, and everyday is a new challenge with my several jobs," he noted.

Comrie, who is now pursuing a postgraduate degree in logistics and management, believes that persons should not limit their dreams.

"You are your own limitation," advised Comrie.
