Man flees site after claiming he saw duppy Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer A man who said that he saw ghosts on the spade of a front-end rig he was driving, stopped working and could not be convinced to complete the work on a site in Spanish Town, St Catherine, last Thursday. The head-raising incident occurred on the site of the Point Hill Bus Park on Wellington Street, Spanish Town. This is not strange to many, who said similar incidents have occurred there. "The first time dem a tun it inna market, man died dere afta duppy lick him," Jonathan Hanson, a resident of the area, told THE STAR. It was revealed that in earlier years, there was a very large tree on the site, on the old cemetery, and cane cutters and rural folks would place their drays there while doing business. Another resident told THE STAR that the location where the bus park is being built is believed to have been the site of an old cemetery. "Him very lucky. It is number four burying ground. It is one of the many old cemeteries in Spanish Town that dem build things on," Marcus Thomas said. The Star was told that the Old Capital was a place for burial and the deceased may be fed up with being disturbed. Several attempts to get a direct comment on the incident from the St Catherine Parish Council's Road and Works Department proved futile. A representative from the council, however, was adamant that the building of the bus park is to be completed to facilitate more parking spaces. |
