|
A man who admitted throwing stones which damaged his former girlfriend's motor car is being sued to recover compensation for the repairs. According to the man, he was charged with malicious destruction of property, pleaded guilty and paid the fine. He said he could not understand the reason she is now bringing him before the court a second time. "I think I was justified in damaging her motor car because I caught her cheating on me," he explained. "We were in a relationship for three years before I caught her ,last year kissing a man in her car. The man works at her workplace. Someone told me she was having an affair with the man. Furious "Last year, I trailed her after she left work. I saw her driving to the man's house. before he came out of the motor car, I saw them hugging and kissing in the car. I was furious. I picked up two stones and threw them into the windscreen. I was going to beat her and the man but the man ran inside his house. She began shouting for murder. I drove off and left her. "When I got home later that night, I noticed she had moved out her belongings. She called me to say she was staying at her mother's house. As far as I am concerned, she could have stayed at her mother's house forever. She called me many times but I ignored her. "This is the woman I truly loved and was planning to marry. I do not regret damaging the car because I gave her more than half of the money to buy the vehicle. She reported the matter to the police. I was arrested and charged with malicious destruction of property. I went to court, pleaded guilty and explained to the judge what took place. I paid the fine. "Last month, I was served with a summons to attend court. She is suing for the money she spent to repair the car. I think she is unfair because I gave her money to help buy the car. now she is suing me for $30,000. She was present in court when I pleaded guilty and knew that I was fined $50,000 or three months' imprisonment. "I think she is suing me out of spite because I refused to take her back. I could never live with a cheating woman like her. I have done a lot of things for her. She repaid me by cheatings. "I was not aware that after I paid the fine she could have still sued me for the money to repair the car," he said. A criminal case is completely different from a civil case. The fine you paid in court had nothing to do with the money she used to pay for repairs to her motor car. You were punished by the court for malicious destruction of her motor car, a criminal offence. A person convicted of an offence can still be sued to recover damages for personal injuries to the complaint or for damages to the complainant's' property. |
