Tifa, Digicel help disabled girl

SHANICE WATSON, STAR Writer

Since THE WEEKEND STAR featured Naja Lewis, the brilliant little girl born with club feet, corporate entity Digicel, along with brand ambassador Tifa, has offered assistance.

They have committed to financing Naja's upcoming surgery and have also equipped her with various school supplies.

Tifa, who was born with a similar affliction, told THE WEEKEND STAR that she was inspired to help because she could relate to Naja.

"The picture [of Naja wearing feet braces] was what really got me because I wore a similar brace and was in a wheelchair throughout prep school and part of high school. I read the story and saw that she really needed the help, plus she was an A student," Tifa said.

Grateful

Naja's mother, Kerry-Ann Davis, said she's extremely grateful for the help she has received, while little Naja added that she felt good that she got to meet Tifa, one of her favourite artistes.

Digicel's Senior Sponsorship and Development Manager Kamal Powell said, "Just like Tifa, we know that Naja will overcome her obstacles, continue to shine in school, and be a truly extraordinary individual."

Digicel has also promised to pay Naja's school fee for the next two years, and she will also receive a $10,000 book voucher from Sangster's Book Stores.

The presentation was made on Wednesday at the Holy Family Primary School in downtown Kingston, where Naja is a grade four student.
