Livingston Scott, STAR Writer Last season's relegation strugglers, Reno, surprised the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) on Sunday's opening day when they stunned last season's semi-finalists Humble Lion 1-0 in their game at Frome. The Westmoreland club turned back their Clarendon counterparts for an unexpected but promising start to their campaign, and technical director Wendell Downswell said it would be marvellous if they get a result from a second top-four club in their first two matches. "It is the dream of every team to start (season) on a positive note. It has energised a lot of confidence in the players, spectators and staff, in general," he said. "We played one of the top-four teams and scored a goal and didn't concede a goal, and we were somewhat dominant, and we finished the game on a high. It would be marvellous getting a result against a top-four team again; it would be a remarkable achievement," he added. Home advantage Reno will be without midfielder Renario Downwell, who has a hairline fracture, but the national youth coach says it is their intention to make use of home advantage. Meanwhile, Waterhouse started with a 0-0 draw against Rivoli, but coach Calvert Fitzgerald is confident of an improved performance this weekend. "We didn't have a good preseason, and we have some new players that we are trying to integrate, and we played a bit flat. "The (Rivoli) game was also a little testy, as that was the last club I coached in the Premier League ... but with all of that in consideration, we think we ought to perform better next game," he said. "They (Reno) will be on a high, but I am pretty confident in my players that they will play a very good game and an improved game, as things are slowly coming together," he added.
