'Rising Stars' down to four |

With only four contestants remaining in season 12 of the Digicel Rising Stars competition, viewers were kept on the edge of their seats last Sunday to see who would make it through to the next round. Seemingly unsurprised by her elimination, the baby of the competition, Rochelle Harris, made her departure with an understandably lacklustre performance of Mariah Carey's Forever. The top four then proceeded to deliver two performances each for the night, starting with Anna Mariah. Known for her theatrics and artfully choreographed performances, the Montego Bay native literally flooded the stage with yards upon yards of a beautiful gown, which matched perfectly with her song selection of Celine Dion's Water from the Moon. Despite capturing the audience with her stage presence, however, she fell short of delivering a 'wow' performance for the judges. She however managed to redeem herself with her second performance of Miley Cyrus' Wrecking Ball. Up next was Samantha Bogle, who channelled pop legend Michael Jackson for her first performance, giving a soulful rendition of Will You Be There. While judge Alaine considered it her best performance to date, she failed to get any votes from the judges for her second selection of Rather Be by Clean Bandit. Crowd favourite Jody Kay received yet another standing ovation for Debra Cox's Nobody's Supposed to Be Here. Despite a less-than-stellar performance of Taylor Swift's Shake It Off, Jody Kay cemented her spot in the finals and once again left the stage with Anthony Miller's heart in her pocket. The final performance of the night was Marsha K, who got good reviews from the judges for her powerhouse delivery of Whitney Houston's One Moment In Time. She too, secured her spot in the finals with a sexy performance of Beyonce's Grown Woman, complete with backup dancers and svelte moves. Guest judge for the night, Karen Mason, an internationally acclaimed music supervisor and consultant said, "This week's 'Digicel Rising Stars' show was phenomenal. The talent was amazing and they really ranged in terms of the offering. They're great vocalists, great presenters and great performers. It's very rare that you get that full package, especially in new and developing performers. I
really loved it, and I know the finale will be amazing!" |
