Junction, St Elizabeth, got a full dose of friendly sound-system rivalry when the Guinness Sounds of Greatness competition made its second stop. The crowd turnout was testimony to the tremendous support for the event and competitors. Iceberg Million, Thrillaz International, Black Rose, and Shadrock were the sounds that fought it out. The clash got off to an exhilarating start and got significant crowd response. In spite of playing well, Black Rose was eliminated after the first round for breaching the no repeat rule. The rule stipulates that the sound cannot play a song previously played by another during the same round. In the 'Dub for Dub' second round. Shadrock, who seemed to have struggled to get support in the first round, was slowly building a fan base. Thrillaz, who seemed to be one of the promising ones, was knocked out by Iceberg. As Shadrock's supporters grew, so did their set. In the end, Shadrock came out as the champion, and the crowd was pleased. The judges, Tony Matterhorn and Mikey Bennett, gave professional and honest feedback to the sounds. Imru James, acting brand manager, Guinness, said he was happy with the support thus far. "Guinness has always supported dancehall and the sound system. "The growing crowds at the events shows that consumers appreciate what we are trying to do to develop the sound system culture," James said. |
