Selling the matrimonial home |
|||||
![]() A man who claimed he had to flee the matrimonial home in 2012 is contemplating selling the house so he can get his share of the property. He explained that he had no idea that the woman he had married in 2005 was a prostitute. When he found out he told her she had to give up that lifestyle. According to the husband, his wife was upset, told him it was her livelihood and she was not going to stop. "All now I cannot get over the way my wife reacted when I told her what I heard that she was engaged in prostitution," he disclosed. "I had expected her to say it was not true, but she stared me straight in my face and said that was what she did for a living before she married me and she was not going to stop. It really broke my heart because I did not know she was engaged in such activities. "When I complained to some of her relatives about my wife and what she said to me, they apologised. They said they thought she had told me about her lifestyle. I packed my bags and fled the home after she insisted she was not giving up prostitution because of me. "If I had known she was a prostitute when I met her, I would never have married her. She played the game very well. I am still in a state of shock that she could have tricked me. I still love my wife but I cannot continue a relationship with her. If she had apologised and promised she would discontinue being a prostitute, I would have forgiven her. However, what bothers me is she has no intention of giving up prostitution. She is a mother of two boys and a girl. They are not my children. She should try to set an example for them. "I don't want to divorce her but I want to sell the house, which I purchased shortly after we got married. I know she is entitled to half-share of the house, but I don't quite understand how to go about the sale," he said. You should notify your wife of your plan to sell the house. She could purchase your share. However, if she does not wish to do so, you should have the property valued and advertised for sale. You will have to get a lawyer to handle the sale and transfer of the property to the new owner. |
