Portmore defeat MoBay

LIVINGSTON SCOTT, STAR Writer

Newly promoted former champions, Portmore United, marked their return to top-flight football with a 2-0 win over last season's beaten finalist, MoBay United, in the season opener of the 2015-16 Red Stripe Premier League at Prison Oval, yesterday.

Ricardo Morris scored a second-half brace to hand Portmore the win. At Frome, Reno surprised Humble Lion 1-0 on Kavar Walker's strike, while Rivoli held Waterhouse to a 0-0 draw at Prison Oval.

Meanwhile, Jermaine 'Teddy' Johnson showed glimpses of his mercurial talent in Tivoli Gardens' opening game against Cavalier, which ended 0-0 at the Edward Seaga Complex.

However, it wasn't the sublime performance the home fans and many football observers had anticipated.

The former Bolton Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday striker, who is presently out of contract overseas, told STAR Sports that although his intention is to return overseas, he wants to help the west Kingston club win trophies again.

However, he insisted that he is not a one-man band and need the support of his teammates to be successful.

"Every time you play, you want to win a trophy or the competition and that is my aim, try to help the team (Tivoli Gardens) win a trophy," Johnson said.

At the Harbour View Mini Stadium, Boys' Town and Harbour View played to a 1-1 draw.

Peter Keyes opened the scoring in the 24th minute for Boys' Town before Georgino James equalised in the 84th for the Stars of the East.
