A senior who apologised, acknowledging that she was wrong to disrespect a police officer outside a courthouse and cited stress as her reason for disorderly conduct, was fined and sentenced to 240 hours of community service on Friday.

When the matter was called up in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's (RM) Court, the accused woman, Beryl Shaw, pleaded guilty to all four offences with which she was charged.

She was charged with disorderly conduct, using abusive language, using indecent language and resisting arrest.

RM Maxine Ellis told the elderly woman: "Big woman like you don't know how to conduct yourself? I should send you to do the 10 days".

The court was advised that Shaw later apologised to the officer and claimed that she was having a rough day.

RM Ellis said: "When you are stressed, stay in your house and scream; people will think that you are a watching the Olympics."

Shaw was sentenced to the community service for disorderly conduct. She was also fined $2,000 or 10 days for abusive language, $2,000 or 10 days for indecent language and $2,000 or 10 days for resisting arrest.

Shaw was advised that if the fines were not paid, then the 10 days are to run concurrently.
