Fruitful Vale, Portland

A Portland family is now living in fear after three armed thugs reportedly entered their residence at Fruitful Vale in the parish Friday night and robbed them of a firearm and other personal items.

The robbery reportedly took place about 9 p.m. after a businessman left his family at home.

According to the police, the thugs invaded the house, which was occupied by the businessman's mother and daughter and allegedly tied them up. The police say that the thugs demanded from the two females the whereabouts of a safe. Their demands were met, and the men removed a safe containing a licensed firearm belonging to the businessman.

The men also stole several rounds of ammunition, which was found under a bed. They then proceeded to ransack the house - stealing also five cases of white overproof rum, computer tablets, and several pairs of shoes.

There was no report of cash stolen from the premises. The Portland police are investigating the matter.
