Rosheika Grant, STAR Writer A blind man who had previously been on a murder charge was once again dragged before the court after he was slapped with sexual charges. The man, Winston Pittison, has now been accused of the sexual touching of a child and rape. He was previously on bail for the charge of conspiracy to murder The 40-year-old accused man had his bail revoked when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. He appeared before Resident Magistrate Maxine Elllis. RM Ellis was visibly upset when the accused was brought before her. She questioned under whose authority the accused had received bail because the circumstances of his murder charge were very serious. Special treatment According to the court, the accused man's co-accused is a 17-year-old female, who is reportedly his girlfriend. The presiding judge said Pittison's physical impairment should not be used as an excuse for him to receive special treatment because he is accused of committing dangerous crimes. "If your visual impairment cannot keep you out of the criminal court, then we have to assume he is living a normal life," added Ellis. RM Ellis noted that charges such as these matters must be handled in a diligent manner as she revoked the bail she said the accused should not have received in the first place. "The society must understand that we take these issues seriously," she noted. Pittison will return to court on September 30. |
