THE STAR has unearthed additional details of an attempted robbery of an armoured vehicle last Thursday by gunmen lurking in the vicinity of St Luke's Church in Cross Roads, St Andrew.

An operation carried out by members the St Catherine South police and Counter Terrorism and Organised Crime Division resulted in the apprehension of three men and three guns, including an AK-47 assault rifle.

Two of the men were nabbed in Cross Roads, staking out a financial institution at which cash was to be delivered. Police sources told The STAR that one of the men held identified himself as a correctional officer on interdiction.

Weapons seized

The third man was arrested the following day in Cooreville Gardens attempting to make his getaway with AK-47 in tow. The weapons seized from the two in Cross Roads included a .45 semi-automatic and 9mm Glock pistols.

Persons in the busy Cross Roads area described the operation as almost out of a movie, saying men in regular clothing appeared out of the blue, grabbing and removing weapons from the suspects who were seemingly passing time.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force's Corporate Communication Unit has confirmed that three men were taken into custody and will face criminal charges shortly. Investigations revealed that they are allegedly members of a criminal gang based in the St Andrew community of Arnett Gardens.
