Hypertension and use of antihypertensive drugs do not automatically rule out the use of Cialis (tadalfil) for treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED). Cialis is an oral drug used for treating various degrees of impotence. Cialis can interact with drugs including some antibiotics and anti-fungal medications but, most notoriously, Cialis can interact with a class of drugs called nitrates (e.g. nitroglycerin) used in the treatment of heart disease, causing unacceptable increases in heart rate and excessive lowering of blood pressure.

Same concerns

This could actually lead to a heart attack. This is a class effect which means the same concerns are reflected when using Viagra (sildenafil) or Levitra (vardenafil).

Heart disease is a common complication of prolonged uncontrolled hypertension. Nitrates are often prescribed.

Taking Cialis, Viagra or Levitra is absolutely contraindicated when taking nitrates for heart disease. In fact, even when not using nitrates, if during sexual activity, aided by Cialis or any of these drugs, any pain, numbness or tingling is experienced to the chest, neck or jaw, sexual activity should cease immediately and the man ought to see a physician urgently.

I would also suggest that Ed improve his sexual health and blood-pressure control by making healthy lifestyle changes. Exercise, weight loss, a healthy diet and cessation of cigarette smoking can improve erectile dysfunction and high blood pressure by reducing stress and increasing blood supply to all regions of the body.
