Jamaicans hope for Tropical Storm Danny |

|
André Williams, STAR Writer Danny, the fourth tropical storm of the 2015 hurricane season, was formed in the eastern Atlantic last week and the Meteorological Service of Jamaica has been tracking its movement and providing regular updates. Jamaica, however, has been experiencing extreme drought conditions for sometime, with the National Water Commission (NWC) having implemented water restrictions across sections of the island. Though Danny is not a threat to Jamaica at this time, there are Jamaicans who express strong desires for the tropical storm to dump some well-needed rainfall on the island despite our inabilities in dealing with natural disasters. THE STAR spoke with a few who said they wish Danny would hit Jamaica. No luck Charles Francis said: "Bwoy mi woulda hope it come cause at least we woulda get some water." Shernette Hall said: "Danny need fi come cause di Mona dam want full, if it's even the outer bands." David Hunter said: "We know Jamaica nuh have no luck with hurricanes or dem ting deh, but right now the water restriction a mash up business so mi wouldn't mind the water from Tropical Storm Danny." Meanwhile, The Meteorological Service of Jamaica yesterday said Danny is expected to become a tropical depression today. On the forecast track, the centre will also move into the north-eastern Caribbean Sea today. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Continued weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours. |
