How to get into shape today

Heart disease is the number one killer in Jamaica, almost 14 people die on a daily basis. It is time to reduce your risk of an early death by creating an exercise regime and healthy eating pattern.

After years in the British Army, and many years working as a strength and conditioning coach to athletes, and a personal trainer to non-athletes, I have come to the agreement that mental toughness is the most important factor in becoming successful in your fitness journey.

Habitual pattern

Developing discipline and dedication is a must to achieve most of life's goals, thus acquiring this mindset comes with the ability to do the things that you have to do that you don't feel like doing.

Research suggests that doing the same thing consistently over 28 days creates a habitual pattern, therefore after 28 days it will become a part of your life.

First, you must be clear on the reason why you are starting this fitness journey, so when it gets extremely difficult and motivation is lost, you will remember why it is you have started the journey.

Secondly, create a journal (write it down), even if it is 10 sit-ups per day, it offers you to check back overtime what you have done.

Thirdly, find a group of like-minded people who are able to motivate you when things get tough.

There is no time like the present to starting a new fitness regime. It just takes the decision from yourself to start. I challenge you to start today, right now, and do this for the next 30 days every day.
