Forty-one-year-old Constable Dudley Lewin of the St Catherine North Division was yesterday charged by MOCA for Breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act. It is alleged that on August 15, Lewin seized a coaster bus and solicited $30,000 in exchange for the release of the motor vehicle. A report was made to MOCA, resulting in the execution of an operation. On Monday, Lewin collected $16,000 from the complainant and was arrested by detectives from MOCA during the operation. During the process to apprehend him, a struggle ensued. A firearm was discharged, resulting in the accused receiving injuries to his right arm. He later received medical attention and was released into police custody. Lewin was offered bail in the sum of $400,000 with one or two sureties, reporting conditions and to surrender all travel documents. He will appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on October 13. |
