Movie night on Rising Stars

Contestants on Digicel Rising Stars were reminded this week of the importance of rallying votes as they nervously lined up to hear who would be in the bottom two, to sing-off for a chance to remain on the show.

Jay Keda and Anthony Miller's wild card, Amoii, went to battle. Jay Keda's emotional performance of Phil Collin's Against All Odds gave her a second chance to stay in the competition.

Moving into the night's performances, the contestants were asked to sing a song from their favourite movie.

First up was Marsha Kay, who chose Don't Need Another Hero from the movie Mad Max beyond Thunderdome. Anthony Miller, who is usually a fan of Marsha Kay, felt that she was off-key, while Alaine could find moments where her voice sounded very much like Tina Turner, the song's original performer.

Up next were the only males left in the competition, Vanity Club. The duo rose to the top this week with Aerosmith's Don't Wanna Miss a Thing. All the judges were blown away and happy that the gentlemen finally delivered a strong performance.

However, Anna Mariah was described as unemotional after she sang Bridge Over Troubled Waters from the movie Pursuit of Happiness.

While Jay Keda may have caught everyone's eye with the sexy outfit to match her rendition of Lady Marmalade, she did not catch the judge's vote with her performance being less than memorable.

Roshelle was equally forgettable after a poor song choice, Miley Cyrus' The Climb.

'The Gospel Chick', as Anthony has nicknamed Roxy J, returned to her Christian ways this week, performing The Victory from the movie The Gospel. Alaine thought she came off as angry, while Conroy felt she was not strong vocally.

Resident teacher, Jody Kay, took everyone for a joy ride in her Pink Cadillac, earning her the best performance of the night. Usually miserly with his compliments, Anthony Miller declared that she is the best voice in the competition.

The night's guest judge, Bryce Wilson, was also very happy with her performance, stating, "Great voice, great confidence, great energy. You nailed it!"

Ending the night was Samantha Bogle. She sang Christina Perry's A Thousand Years from the popular teen flick Twilight. Also dressed to match the movie in a velvet burgundy cloak, the judges felt that the song did live up to the promise of her outfit, citing that her voice was not the best match for the song.

Digicel Rising Stars will continue this Sunday on TVJ, starting at 8 p.m.
