'Buzz' will pass tough test

PHILIP FEANNY's BUZZ NIGHTMARE gets his toughest test in tomorrow's O&S Tack Rook Trophy race after reeling off two wins from a four-month lay-up.

Imported in utero, BUZZ NIGHTMARE debuted with a smashing 14-length win late February, clocking 1:05.3 for five and a half furlongs and was immediately cast into the three-year-old classics spotlight.

However, he flopped as a 1-2 favourite, mid-March, in the Prince Consort Stakes. Beaten by second-tier horses SIEMPRE BUENO, POKER STAR and BALLON D'OR at 1400 metres, BUZZ NIGHTMARE finished nine lengths fifth after disputing the lead.

Feanny had his charge sit out the classics and brought him back mid-July for a crack at non-winners- of-two. BUZZ NIGHTMARE responded well by slamming ACTION MAN by 10 lengths at 1100 metres, posting 1:06.2.

He went on to conquer non-threes, by three and a half lengths, on Independence Day, comfortably beating ROYAL ASSAULT at 1000 metres round.

Stretched out at 1300 metres tomorrow, BUZZ NIGHTMARE is not only in unfamiliar territory, having never ventured past 1100 metres in a race, he is up against a dangerous runner, Lorne Kirlew's ROAD WI SEH, who rubbed shoulders with the classics horses in the Governor's Cup and Derby.

ROAD WI SEH disputed the lead in the Governor's Cup and Derby to at least the half-mile marker and returned off a rest to beat non-twos by a length and a half, going 1400 metres, two weeks ago. ACTION MAN was one of his victims, finishing six and a half lengths third.

ROAD WI SEH is drawn at post-position one, but should have no problems getting away cleanly, considering his good speed. BUZZ NIGHTMARE is out wide, post-position nine, in the 10-horse field, a good position from which to stalk the speed.

It is highly unlikely the pace will come back at 1300 metres so neither can allow the other to steal a march. The experience of Ian Spence could be the deciding factor aboard BUZZ NIGHTMARE. O'Brien White will be hell bent on getting away from the inside draw, while Spence should be more comfortable in mid-track.

ROAD WI SEH is quick but has never been eyeballed in a sprint. BUZZ NIGHTMARE is expected to take him on from the word go and should be more comfortable in a duel. With two solid sprints under his girth, Feanny's runner is expected to prove stronger coming off the home turn.
