Sixty-six-year-old Justice of the Peace and former Parish Manager of the Social Development Commission (SDC) in St Mary Jeanette Rose-Bryan was on Wednesday charged with several offences under the Larceny Act when she appeared in the Port Maria Resident Magistrate's Court.

Rose-Bryan was charged with obtaining money by means of false pretence, fraudulent conversion, and conspiracy to defraud after she was implicated with a senior member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Denise McKain, who was arrested and charged on August 5, for similar offences by detectives assigned to the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA).

It is alleged that during the period 2009 to 2012, Rose-Bryan and DSP McKain used an unregistered organisation to fraudulently solicit and obtain money from farmers of the Three Hills Farm District in St. Mary.

A report was made to the then Police Anti-Corruption Branch and an investigation was launched.

A file was prepared and sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for a ruling, after which DSP McKain was charged. Further investigations led to the arrest and charge of Rose-Bryan.

DSP McKain was offered bail in the sum of $250,000, with one or two sureties. She is scheduled to reappear in court on October 28.

Rose-Bryan reappeared in the Port Maria Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday, where she was offered bail in the sum of $250,000. As conditions of her bail, she is to surrender her travel documents and report to the police on Mondays between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
