CURTIS CAMPBELL, STAR Writer Jamaican recording artiste OMI has returned to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, pushing aside R&B singer The Weeknd, who received top honours last week with his effort Can't Feel My Face. Signed to Ultra Music in 2013, OMI has been reaping success after success with the Felix Jaehn remix of his song Cheerleader selling platinum in the United States last month. Before being dethroned last week, Cheerleader previously held the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for four weeks. At five weeks on top for Cheerleader, OMI boasts the longest-leading reggae No. 1 on the Hot 100 by a solo male in more than 22 years. OMI also holds the No. 1 spot on the Canadian Hot 100 chart, closely followed by The Weeknd. Cheerleader was released over three years ago as a ska record, a genre rarely practised by Jamaican youth. OMI also released a follow-up single called Fireworks in 2013. For this effort he dabbled with mento, another genre rarely practised by the new generation of Jamaican artistes.
