Stocks and Securities Ltd (SSL) handed over a cheque of $150,000 to the Allman/Woodford Under-13 and Under-15 football teams, recently. "Sports is a complement to education. Both boost character and confidence. We do not always acknowledge the cohesive work that sports organisations do in promoting good will, discipline and providing our young people with an opportunity to express themselves through sports," Education Minisiter Ronnie Thwaites said. During Saturday and Sunday's matches, the Under-15 and Under-13 Allman/Woodford teams copped a landslide victory against Mountain View FC, with scores of 5-0 and 10-0, respectively. Since the beginning of this season, the Allman/Woodford Under-13 team has played five matches with four wins and one draw. The Under-15 team has played five matches with three wins. Lamar Harris, general manager and company secretary of SSL, said that through the company's foundation, SSL is proud to contribute to sports and education, as these areas enhance nation building. "We are heartened to know that SSL is supporting one of the best football clubs in Kingston. Our commitment to the nation's youth goes beyond this isolated activity. SSL promotes educating the public on ways to improve lives through gaining financial freedom," said Harris. Allman/Woodford Football Club, under the leadership of Errol Howlett, vice-president and manager, has become a formidable force and is one of the strongest clubs in Central Kingston. "We really appreciate the support we received from Stocks and Securities Ltd. Their donation will go a long way in helping the team finish this year's season, especially in terms of equipping the teams with the proper gears, provision of transportation, food, and other necessities," Howlett said. Ronald Thwaites (second right), minister of education, and MP for Central Kingston, thanks Bishop Robert Thompson, chair of the Stocks and Securities Ltd. Sharing in the moment are Lamar Harris, general manager and company secretary of SSL and Errol Howlett, vice-president and manager of the Allman/Woodford Football Club. |
