Teenager allegedly assaults woman during robbery |

Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer A teenager accused of assaulting a woman while robbing her handbag was remanded in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. He is Tiandre Haughton, 19, from Greater Portmore, St Catherine. When the matter was mentioned, attorney-at-law Shane Dalling applied for bail on Haugton's behalf. He told the court that his client is youthful and deserves bail, as he was given station bail and was only remanded after the charges were changed from larceny to robbery with violence. Allegations are that on June 16, the complainant, upon entering her home in Greater Portmore, was grabbed by the neck by a man. During a struggle, the strap of her handbag broke and was used to hit her repeatedly. The complainant started to shout "tief tief" and residents intercepted, resulting in the accused trying to flee the scene. He was later held and the police summoned. The police conducted further investigations, which resulted in Haughton being charged with larceny. Haughton returns to court on October 20, when the matter is scheduled to be mentioned. |
