The various run for charity events have gained popularity in Jamaica recently and there will be another in Falmouth, with the Jamaica National (JN) Building Society Foundation to stage its inaugural Heroes in Action 5K Run/Walk in this historic town.

The event was launched in the Falmouth Town Hall on Thursday, with head of the JN Foundation and General Manager of the JN Building Society, Earl Jarrett, endorsing the event in a release he sent.

He emphasised the town's rich history of Georgian structures, and its rich architectural details which made the run one of the most picturesque of all.

This was endorsed by distance running guru, Alfred 'Frano' Francis, managing director of Running Events Jamaica.

Francis presented an overview of the event and outlined the route. He noted that a high percentage of persons who are sick are so because of their lifestyles.

According to assistant general manager of JNBS, Leon Mitchell, all proceeds will go towards, "constructing a school building to include a classroom, a sewing room and a media library".

He said this will improve the quality of life of all the girls of the facility.

JN will work in tandem with the Usain Bolt Foundation, which was represented by Wellesley Bolt, father of the athlete. He said his son would love to be present but could not because he is travelling to the World Championships. He reiterated his son's commitment to such ventures.
