The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is seeking to reassure the public of their safety while travelling on the state-owned buses despite the recent incidents involving their vehicles.

Head of Marketing and Communication at JUTC, Clinton Clarke, admitted that the company is aware of the public's concerns.

"We have been getting numerous telephone calls, listening to the talk shows and so on. We are concerned ourselves about the public's safety, but don't be alarmed. We are doing everything possible to maintain the safety of those we carry in our buses," Clarke said.

He also noted that the company continuously trains drivers in defensive driving and provides refresher courses to keep drivers sharp.

Recently, the state-owned bus company has experienced a series of unfortunate incidents, including multiple bus fires and fatal road accidents.

On Monday, a vendor was crushed by a JUTC bus in downtown Kingston, and on Friday another bus ran off the road into a gully in Barbican, St Andrew.
