Jamaica's Sunshine Girls rebounded from Tuesday's loss to New Zealand, defeating Uganda (59-47) in their latest game at the Netball World Cup at the Allphones Arena in Sydney, Australia.

Both teams were playing for their first win in the qualification rounds, and Jamaica did not have it all their own way for the first meeting between these two teams in Netball World Cup history.

The mismatch of Uganda's keeper, Florence Nanyonga, and Jamaica's Jhaniele Fowler-Reid was obvious, with the Ugandan giving away 25cm in height.

It was a strong defensive effort across the court from the Sunshine Girls to start the match as Jamaica's Paula Thompson continued her dangerous form in defence with two stunning intercepts in the opening quarter.

In a physical battle, Jamaica was able to regain composure and capitalise on the scoreboard from Ugandan turnovers, leading the game 44-35 at the third quater.

Jamaica meets Malawi today in the final qualifying round match to cement their position in the semi-finals.
