Donovan 'Razor' Ruddock, once regarded as one of the best heavyweight boxers in the world, created waves in boxing circles earlier this year, when he returned to the ring after a 13-year break, at age 51.

Now, he is scheduled to fight champion Dillon Carman for the Canadian heavyweight title, in Toronto on September 11.

Ruddock, who had not fought since October 12, 2001, has had two fights since his return; one in March and the other in May. He won both and has been given the go ahead to challenge for the Canadian title he once held.

The present title holder is 29 years old and has a 8-2 record. He won the vacant Canadian title on October 25, 2014 by defeating Eric Bahaoeli, and will be making his first title defence. He has been a professional boxer for only four years.

Regain title

Ruddock prides himself in his physical fitness and has stated that there is no doubt in his mind that he will regain the title that he once held.

He has a very impressive 40-5-1 record and when one recalls that the men who have beaten him are top class fighters, it has to be accepted that he has had a remarkable career.

He lost to Mike Tyson twice in two very exciting fights, to Lennox Lewis, and to Tommy Morrison, all exceptional fighters.

The only question to be answered now is: how his body will respond to this ring challenge at age 51.

The fight is scheduled for 10 rounds, which is unusual, as these title fights are usually more than 12 rounds, and the shorter distance will definitely be better for him.

He showed in his two fights this year that he still has power in both hands, so it could be very interesting.
