Singing Vernon has 'Golden Plan'

Conscious reggae artiste Singing Vernon firmly believes positivity is woefully lacking in the local music industry.

"My music is primarily roots-rock Reggae music, echoing the voice of the people. I am the reggae defender. I am here to give the people good music because that's what they need. While I believe that there's space for all types of music, I would like to hear more positive music over the local airwaves," he said.

The talented St Elizabeth native began his career more than a decade ago. He is known for songs such as HitSong, Simple Life and Don't You Worry.

Singing Vernon's debut album, My Mission was released by VP Records in 2008. Since then he has released a number of singles and performed at events locally and abroad.

Singing Vernon, born Vernon Bourne, recently recorded a single, Golden Plan. The song was recorded at Keezie's studio, Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth, for France-based label Capitol Records.

"This song is a very special song. The message it conveys is very important. It's time for the bigger heads to realise the value of ganja and the positive impact it could have on our economy if it is fully legalised," said the artiste. Golden Plan is slated to be released on iTunes before the end of August.

Singing Vernon is also working on a number of other projects for his Outta Town imprint.

"I'm recording some more new songs, I already have a huge catalogue of songs. many of them have not been officially released but I like to keep making music. I plan to release an EP, or an album, before I hit the road next year," said Vernon.
