WESTERN BUREAU: A St James man who admitted to stealing gas from another man's truck was given a suspended sentence in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday. Windel Sylvester, 44, pleaded guilty to simple larceny. Reports are that on July 9 at approximately 2:15 a.m., Sylvester stole two 5-gallon containers of petroleum from the complainant's truck. "Why did you do what you did?" Resident Magistrate Carolyn Tie asked the accused. "Mi work wid di man and him nuh want pay mi. Mi neva want dweet still," replied Sylvester. After reading Sylvester's social enquiry report, RM Tie decided to give him a three-month prison term, suspended for 12 months. "Sir, it seems like no one have any good things to say about you. It seems like they are quite happy to get a break from you," RM Tie said to the accused man, prior to handing down the sentence. - C.T. |
