Dumbarton Avenue fire leaves $8m in damage

Bjorn Burke, Staff Reporter

Firefighters last night worked feverishly to contain a blaze that was raging at a premises housing an Internet radio station located on Dumbarton Avenue in St Andrew, leaving behind roughly $8 million in damages.

Thick clouds of black smoke blanketed the skies of the Corporate Area yesterday, as the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) dispatched two fire engines - one from Rollington Town and the other from Trench Town - to the scene to contain the inferno.

Fire personnel reportedly received distress calls about 8:12 p.m. leading to the 99 Dumbarton Avenue-premises, which was once home to web radio station, Jam Rock One.

When THE STAR arrived on the scene, about 9 p.m., JFB personnel told our news team the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.

No immediate injuries were reported.
