Woman shot with fish gun

Stony Hill, Portland:

A Portland woman is now dead following an alleged dispute on Tuesday between two men (neighbours) at Ransa, Stony Hill, in Portland.

The woman has been identified as Angella Jackson, unemployed, and is believed to be in her mid-50s.

According to a police report, about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, Jackson's grandson and another man were reportedly involved in a dispute when spear guns (fish guns) were drawn and she intervened on his behalf.

During the alleged quarrel, threats and shoving, Jackson was reportedly shot in the eye with a spear gun by the man, and she fell to the ground, crying out in pain, as blood spewed from her injured left eye.

Jackson was rushed to the Port Antonio Hospital, but reportedly died some hours later while being transferred to a hospital in Kingston.

The police said it is still unclear how the alleged attacker was injured, but that he is now a patient at hospital under police guard.

On Tuesday, dozens of family members converged at the Port Antonio Police Station, but they later broke down in tears after learning about the death of their injured family member by way of a telephone call.

The Portland police are investigating.
