Illegal electricity reconnection leads to death

Just days after THE STAR highlighted the high rate of electricity theft in some communities in St Catherine, a man from the area has reportedly lost his life through electrocution from an illegally connected wire.

The STAR understands that the man, who has only been identified by his alias, Stingerman, is a resident of Five Miles in Sligoville.

According to a resident, the man was electrocuted last Friday night, about 8:30 p.m., after he tried to reconnect an illegal wire which was disconnected by the Jamaica Public Service contractors.

"The wire held him for about three minutes and it sucked him right out. When he fell to the ground, he was like paper," the resident said.

The Sligoville police have confirmed that they heard of the incident, but said it has not yet been reported to them.
