Shop operator killed in May pen

Another Clarendon family is in mourning following Thursday night's gun slaying of 25-year-old Kemar 'Nagus' James in the Evans Street area of Seven Road (Farm) in May Pen, Clarendon. And again, they are pondering burying the family's breadwinner.

James, a shop operator and labourer, was gunned down in full view of his common-law wife, Sennetteah Israel, and his three young children by an unknown gunman, who, according to Israel pretended to purchase cigarettes, but instead pumped three bullets into James' head, killing him on the spot just after 9 p.m. Thursday night.

"How me a go manage," the deceased man's common-law wife (Israel) wailed, as she held their one-year-old twin girls and two-year-old son at their Evans Street home earlier this morning.

"He (Kemar) promised me that he will be here for them (children) to see them through the worst, but look what happen to him now. Them take him away from us. How me a go manage with the three of them?," she asked sadly, as the tears poured down her cheeks.

According to Israel, James was sitting in front of his make-shift shop, when a supposed patron walked up and ordered cigarettes. And as James reached for the cigarettes under the counter, it is said that the gunman pulled a firearm and shot James several times in his head, before making his escape down Evans Street.

She noted that, while the deceased does not have any known enemies or isn't in any conflict with anyone, he was shot and seriously injured some two years ago by persons in a family feud.

The police's Constabulary Communications Unit confirmed the incident, but could not provide any additional information.

Investigations continue.
