Perfect Neighbour a cinch for PM Stakes |

Surprised by stablemate HOVER CRAFT in June's Viceroy Trophy at 1800 metres, PERFECT NEIGHBOUR, now assured an easier pace, should set the record straight in tomorrow's 2000-metre Prime Minister's Stakes. Allowing HOVER CRAFT 13lb in the Viceroy, PERFECT NEIGHBOUR went in chase of UPPA TUNE two and a half furlongs out and was just getting the better of stablemate ALL CORRECT when the outsider from DaCosta's barn, HOVER CRAFT, fell from the clouds at odds of 6-1. Extremely fit this summer, HOVER CRAFT was making his third outing for June, stepping up in class to grade one, appearing to be a filler for his stablemates in the seven-horse field. However, the script was flipped on 3-5 favourite PERFECT NEIGHBOUR and 7-2 chance ALL CORRECT as HOVER CRAFT blew past both close home to complete a second giant-killing act after beating COMMANDING CHIEF and then Derby favourite ALI BABA at 1820 metres in May. Carrying 56.0 kilos at 1800 metres turned out to be a tough ask of PERFECT NEIGHBOUR. Included in the line-up were Harry Parsard's pair of PETE'SWILDONE and UPPA TUNE, who ran a relay down the backstretch in splits of 45.0 and 1:10.0. Seeing UPPA TUNE make his move three furlongs out, after PETE'SWILDONE carried the field down the backstretch, Omar Walker had no option but to go in chase of the United States-bred horse, who is renowned for slipping stayers. However, the effort took its toll in the stretch run on PERFECT NEIGHBOUR as he had to battle his stablemate, ALL CORRECT, who was running light at 115lb, in receipt of eight pounds. HOVER CRAFT benefitted from the pace, backstretch relay, stretch battle and, finally, handicaps, to sprout wings close home. However, at 2000 metres, with no breakneck speed to contend with, PERFECT NEIGHBOUR will be able to stalk and make his move when he desires, instead of being rushed off his bridle. The five-year-old should be changing gears after getting rid of ALL CORRECT, setting up another DaCosta trifecta as HOVER CRAFT is again expected to run big. |
