Cop shot during robbery

The police constable shot and injured during a robbery in Scotts Pass, Clarendon, late Monday remains hospitalised in serious but stable condition, THE STAR understands.

Reports are that about 10:50 p.m., the constable was on his way home with a relative from the airport when they stopped in the area. While there, two men, one armed with a firearm, entered and proceeded to rob them and then opened fire, hitting the officer.

The men fled the scene and the injured policeman was rushed to hospital.

THE STAR gathers that a blood drive has since been launched for the injured policeman who reportedly sustained injuries to the left armpit.

Commissioner of police Dr Carl Williams has expressed outrage that hoodlums with no regard for life and property have once again threatened the life of another member of the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The police are appealing to witnesses to come forward and tell what they know so that these criminals can be brought to justice. Anyone with information that can assist the police with their investigations is being asked to call Crime Stop at 311 or 811, the police 119 emergency number, or the nearest police station.
