Beach Bums party a success

CURTIS CAMPBELL, STAR Writer

The recently concluded Beach Bums pulled hundreds of patrons to Maiden Caye. The over 10-year-old event was both liquor-and-food inclusive and was also the party of choice for several popular personalities.

THE STAR boarded the Smirnoff-hired boat at Morgans Harbour Hotel minutes after 10 a.m. and after about 20 minutes of splashing and slamming against the sometimes rough waves, we arrived at Maiden Caye to a relatively empty beach.

The Smirnoff promo girls didn't seem to mind that the bulk of the audience had not yet arrived at the location, because they were soaking wet from the constant beating of the waves and needed the time and space to redo their hair and make-up before they could indulge in the festivities.

In the meantime, the DJs played old-school hip-hop selections from Cassidy, Jay Z, Biggie Smalls, among others, while early patrons made their way to the bar and food stations where they were treated to a variety of liquor brands and jerk chicken.

By 2 p.m.; the party was in full swing as more boats arrived and gradually filled the island-like venue with patrons. The DJ was amping up the musical juggling to include popular dance songs like Syvah, Kreech, Way Up and Lowe Mi. "Big up all who turn out to Beach Bums, no matter where you come from we are all one; look how we look good uniting," the DJ yelled as the patrons danced to the selections.

Former Reggae Boy Ricardo Fuller, who was spotted partying with his wife and friends, told The STAR that Beach Bums is a good event to relax.

"I have always seen the pictures on social media and I said to myself that I had to try it. I am here living it up and having a good time, I love the vibe and I am enjoying myself and that is all that matters," he said.

Recording artiste J Capri said: "Beach Bums 'shat'. It's at the beach and I love the water and I love to strip and have fun, so I am here with my girls. We came early and we have been eating and drinking, so you know it is later that it is going to be even more turn up," she said.
