Two women disarm man after attempted sexual assault |

A gunman is on the run after he was disarmed by two women who he reportedly tried to sexually assault. The incident occurred yesterday morning, along the Heathfield main road in Linstead, St Catherine. The police said about 1:40 a.m., the women were walking along the road when they were held up by the gunman. He robbed them of cash and their cell phones before forcing them into an abandoned building where he attempted to sexually assault them. However, the women fought back, disarming the gunman. One of the women was, however, wounded after he brandished a knife. A home-made firearm along with a 12- gauge cartridge was seized by the police. Several firearms The female who was injured in the incident was taken to hospital for treatment. The police are appealing to anyone with information who can assist them in their investigation to contact the Linstead Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) at 985-9070, police 119 emergency number or the nearest police station. Meanwhile, the police said several firearms have been handed over to them since the start of the National Coordinated Crime Reduction Operation; the latest being a homemade shotgun seized at Elgin district, Newport in Manchester, yesterday. Reports from the Newport police are that about 1:40 a.m., last Saturday, the occupant of a house in the area which was fleeced of J$$2,150, C$20, US$2 and a play station, confronted a masked burglar who ran from the premises into nearby bushes. A search was conducted and the firearm, two ski masks and a cell phone were found and handed over to the police about 8:30 a.m. Investigations continue. |
