SVL donates $5m to JCF building project

Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) on Tuesday made a contribution of $5 million towards the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) Building Project.

The project involves the building of 14,000 square feet of new office space to facilitate the relocation of staff who work at the JCF headquarters.

The donation was handed over during a ceremony held at the Office of the Commissioner of Police, Old Hope Road, St Andrew.

In his remarks, Minister of National Security Peter Bunting, welcomed the funds, noting that it will contribute to the construction of a more modern and professional space for the police service.

He pointed out that the project began in earnest in January after new Commissioner of Police, Dr Carl Williams, outlined his plans to primarily use internal resources, the skills and expertise of the police force, to complete the new administrative building.

For his part, Dr Williams said it was his hope that the contribution by Supreme Ventures, "will be a catalyst that triggers similar investment by other corporate entities in Jamaica".

He said, to date, some $24 million has been spent and will require another $60 million to complete the job.

"We have come a long way, and I want to thank everyone who has helped us to come this far," Dr Williams said.

The new administrative building will consist four floors to accommodate upwards of 70 members of staff.

It will house the Records Registry, Establishment Department and a number of other functional units.

"We will significantly increase the office space for people who have been working and operating out of rented premises. We will, in effect, not only save the Government millions of dollars, but we will not be paying in the future, the kind of money we are paying, now for the rental of office space," Dr Williams said.

Chairman of Supreme Ventures Limited Paul Hooh, said that it is through partnerships with corporate entities that the JCF will efficiently carry out its duties of providing security, islandwide, and live up to its motto, 'To Serve and Protect'.
