Petersfield FC will parade their skills in the upcoming season of the Charley's JB Rum Western Confederation Super League, following their 2-1 defeat of Beaches Negril FC in Sunday's Westmoreland FA Major League final at the Llandilo Sports Complex.

Having entered the finals as slight favourites, Petersfield struck first when forward Romario Whyte fired past the Beaches goalkeeper in the 10th minute of play.

They had multiple chances to extend their lead but failed to take their chances for the rest of the first half, while Beaches increased in confidence the longer the game went on.

Hugo Hall scored what eventually stood as the game winner in the 80th minute and soon after Beaches received a lifeline when, in the 83rd minute, Desmond Montique netted from open play. The goal, however, did little to change the flow of the game.

Petersfield withstood intense pressure from Beaches in the final minutes but held on for the big win to seal a place in the upcoming Super League season, joining two other Westmoreland-based clubs in the defending champions Savannah SC and former winners Sandals Whitehouse FC.

"That we have now three teams in the Super League is a real victory for us because, despite the fact we have real difficulties with the lack of sponsors for our leagues and the continued non-support of corporate entities in the parish, we have been doing well," said Everton Tomlinson, the Westmoreland FA president.

"Imagine what this parish could achieve if we had support. In all, though, I think this particular Petersfield team has it in them to stake a claim for continuance and eventual success in the Super League," Tomlinson noted.
