A 19-year-old man will spend six months in prison for robbing a schoolgirl of J$1,400. Nicholas Myles of Harbour View, St Andrew, received the sentence after pleading guilty to robbery with aggravation. The Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court heard that on June 4, about 10 a.m., a girl was on her way to school along Gore Terrace when she was attacked and robbed by Myles and two other men. When Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey asked the accused why he should not be incarcerated for the crime, he said, "Me begging you a chance, Your Honour. Me mother sick in the hospital with her heart because she don't know me as this kind of person." In response, RM Pusey said, "Go do the six months in prison. I don't have time for you. Children should be safe to walk the streets." |
