WATA to sponsor All-Jamaica Squash Championships

Wisynco Group will be title sponsor of the 2015 All-Jamaica Senior Squash Championships, set to begin tomorrow to August 1 at the Liguanea Club in Kingston.

Through its WATA brand, Wisynco has provided a $350,000 package for the tournament. Explosive action is expected as newcomer Lewis Walters will make his local debut and promises to give the reigning All-Jamaica Men's Champion, Chris Binnie, a run for his money.

Currently ranked 107 by the Professional Squash Association (PSA), Binnie is favoured to win his sixth national title, but Walters is well positioned to cause an upset.

Ranked 111 by the PSA, Walters is considered a close second seed and could end the streak that has seen Binnie undefeated at the All-Jamaica for the last four years.

Also in the mix are 2014 runner-up Bruce Burrowes and 2009 winner Dane Schwier, seasoned national team players who could stand in the way of the favoured top two.

"When we looked at the line-up of players competing this year, we were eager to get involved with the tournament because it promises to deliver top-quality squash for spectators," Andrew Mahfood, CEO Wisynco Group said.

Wisynco's sponsorship package includes a cash contribution, shirts for players ,and a generous supply of WATA and CranWATA products to keep competitors hydrated.

In the women's competition, reigning champion Alyssa Mullings is tipped to make it three in a row.

However, All-Jamaica Under-19 Girls champion Mary Mahfood will be out to block Mullings as she is on a quest to win her first senior title.

"Everything is in place for a great tournament this year," said Chris Hinds, president of the Jamaica Squash Association.

"We have all the best local players, including two internationally-ranked players. We also have the support of a strong sponsor."
