Manager of Jamaica's Under-19 cricket team, Junior Deans, is pleased with the response of the team following their 167-run win over Canada in their West Indies Cricket Board Under-19 Championship at St Elizabeth Technical last Saturday.

The Jamaicans, who were coming off a 128-run loss to the Windward Islands, first posted a challenging 280 for two off their 50 overs, with Javoy Spence topscoring with an unbeaten 107.

He was supported by all-rounder Odean Smith, 68 not out, and captain Michael Frew, 53.

The Robert Samuels-coached unit then returned to bowl out the Canadians for a meagre 113.

Canada, the International Cricket Council (ICC) America's Under-19 champions, are playing as a guest team as part of their preparations for the ICC Youth World Cup in Bangladesh next year.

Smith, with three for 25, Oshane Thomas, three for 30, and George Walker, two for 17.

"It was a well-executed game, and I am proud of their performance," noted Deans.

"We had been struggling to get our top order batting laying a foundation, and I thought we did that well.

"It is just for us to be consistent with it going forward." The fourth round of the tournament, which is being held primarily in rural Jamaica, will resume today with three fourth-round matches.

At STETHS, early leaders, the Windwards will seek to rebound from their close two wickets defeat against Trinidad and Tobago when they play the Leeward Islands.

The Leewards won their opening game but lost their last encounter against Guyana last Saturday.

Over at Jamalco, Trinidad, who has a one win, two loss record will oppose Canada, who has lost their three fixtures to date.

Meanwhile, at Chedwin Park, Barbados, who drew a bye last round, will play Guyana. Jamaica will sit out the round.
