Jolyn Bryan, Star Writer

A farmer was sentenced on Friday to seven years hard labour in the St Thomas Circuit Court after pleading guilty to manslaughter.

Twenty-seven-year-old Jack Kennedy Deans pleaded guilty to manslaughter after he, his father, and brother appeared before the court in the case of the death of 58-year-old farmer Roy Grant.

Reports indicate that on September 25, 2009, an argument developed between the Deans and Grant in their community in Prospect, St Thomas. Grant was subsequently chopped all over his body and later succumbed to his injuries.

All three men were taken into custody and charged with murder. Kennedy Deans, while entering his plea, indicated that he had been provoked by Grant. Kennedy Deans' father and brother were acquitted.
