Rosheika Grant, STAR Writer

A man accused of assaulting his child's mother was remanded until today when the matter returns to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

O'Brian Despot from Kingston is charged with assault at common-law and simple larceny.

It is alleged that on July 10, Despot and the woman were in an argument. Her throat was squeezed by the accused, who reportedly hit her on the hand, used a broken bottle to assault her, and stole her phone.

"I didn't touch her your honour," said Despot. But the investigating officer admitted seeing marks on the complainant's neck.

Despot explained that the complainant had left her phone at his house and he did not returned the phone to her when he carried their child to her house.

Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey warned the accused to discontinue assaulting his child's mother. "You might feel you can beat her up and get away with it, but if you don't stop, you're going to go to prison," said Pusey.
