The third week of live performances in 'Digicel Rising Stars' competition may have started out on a sour note for contestants Jay Q and Abigail Arthurs, who were voted off from the competition, but the night went up from there with the big voices that the top ten contestants belted out.

First up was Jay Q singing What Is Love by V Bozeman. Judge Conroy Wilson loved her vocals, claiming it to be one of the stronger voices in the competition. Fellow judge, Anthony Miller, thought she did not live up to the demands of the song.

Next was Anna Mariah with her rendition of Through the Fire by Shaka Khan. Judge Alaine Laughton was delighted with her delivery.

"Anna, you look good from your head to your toe and yuh voice tun up." Wilson agreed.

Ashanie Reid also wowed the judges with Celine Dion's I Want You to Need Me. While confessing his dislike for Celine Dion, Miller had no problem admitting that Ashanie's performance was a good one.

While the female contestants were receiving commendations from the judges, the men in the competition did not match up.

The singer and guitarist duo, Universe and Almando, did not receive any love for their rendition of Love and Affection by Pressure.

"It started off slow and you were a little behind the music," said Laughton. Miller added: "You guys aren't in the girl's league and that's the problem."

Another duo in the competition, Vanity Club, wasn't able to find their way singing Maroon 5's Maps.

Jay-Keda was also caught on the bad side of the judges with her interpretation of Celine Dion's Power of Love. Wilson and Laughton identified vocal problems and Miller believed she was too trapped in the '80s.

The only quartet in the competition,Chosen, also had vocal problems. Air Supply's All Out Of Love left them with failed harmonies. Roxy J could not connect with the judges during Fantasia's Believe. Laughton said, "Vocally, there is no question that you can sing, but I need you to sing out more."

Samantha Bogle made a great choice to sing Back Bite by Taurus Riley. "You brought a different energy. It had lots of fire," said Miller. Undoubtedly, the night's strongest performance, Jody Kay James received a standing ovation for Pink's Try.

The fourth live performance show will be aired tomorrow on TVJ at 8 p.m. One contestant will be voted off. The first wild card sing-off will also take place and the contestants will take on their first themed night.
