Bolt - a good ambassador

SHAYNE FAIRMAN, STAR Writer

Worldwide commercial and competition agent, Ricky Simms, who manages global sprint superstar Usain Bolt, believes the iconic Jamaican will remain one of Jamaica's biggest and best brand ambassadors. Simms is in charge of Pace Sports Management, which is one of the world's top athlete management and sports marketing companies.

PACE clients won a total of 13 medals in the 2012 Olympic Games and "Usain is very proud of his country and promotes Jamaica everywhere he goes. I believe he is one of the country's best known ambassadors," Simms told STAR SPORTS in a recent interview.

"In terms of his (Bolt's) marketability, he has been one of the world's most marketable sports stars for the past six years since he won his first three Olympic Games gold medals in Beijing in 2008," he continued.

Having burst on the scene as an outstanding junior, Bolt joined the PACE team 2003 at the age of 16 year old, following an emphatic performance where he won gold at the 2002 World Junior Championships, at the National Stadium.

Usain Bolt is a Jamaican sprinter who is widely considered the fastest human on the planet and has a net worth of US$30 million.

Forbes ranks him as the 73rd best-paid athlete with endorsements of US$21 million.

"Usain has a number of long-term partners and the fact that they continue to renew his contracts shows that he is a very good ambassador for them," Simms pointed out.

The Jamaican has achieved multiple world records, including the 9.58 and 19.19 seconds, respectively in the 100m and 200 metres, and holds six Olympic gold medals.
